I thought of going to a nice silent computer lab and finish my blog and as soon as I grab a seat I hear “ Come out of hiding”, surprised I look at the aisle behind me and see 6 boys staring at the screen with rapt attention, & testing the agility of the keyboard. “The terrorist win” came another shout! A game of counter strike was in progress. We had like a dozen assignments pending but hey as I say u have to surrender to guilty pleasures once in a while! So there I was sitting amongst a clan of online gamers doing, I quote “Stress busting” unquote !
Today the gaming industry is a multi million dollar industry catering to kids, teenagers and even beyond! What makes it so addictive? I ask a self-confessed GTA vice city addict “the adrenaline rush is addictive” he says. Some STAY CLEAR of the word addiction, they prefer to call it a hobby! Be it NFS, COUNTER STRIKE, GTA, MARIO, TETRIS, MADDEN NFL OR THE FIFA, people love them !
Are the games bad? Specialists have confirmed that children who spend too much time playing computer games not only are easily susceptible to long terms problems like bad posture and RSI (repetitive strain injury), but it also causes a disequilibrium in their daily routine.
Are they only bad? No, researchers have found that frequent game players score better at vision tests as compared to non players, the eye hand coordination improves immensely. It has also been found that playing these games could improve children's logical thinking ability and problem solving skills.
For many it is a stress buster for others it’s an activity to be done in Pyjama parties for others its is serious business and for some online gamers it is a slightly different way to connect to people.
For different people it means different things, three terms used by gamers to describe other gamers are "Timmy," "Spike," and "Johnny." These are descriptors for three model personalities typified by gamers.
"Johnny" likes things that are aesthetically pleasing, and
"Spike" ..is a competitive gamer whose enjoyment comes not from the game, but from comparing gaming achievements to those of his peers.
So while you indulge yourself into your gaming Gp(Guilty Pleasure) think WHICH ONE ARE YOU?
